is ombré fading?!

Okay, before I start writing this blog I just want to point out the cleverness of my title "is ombré fading!?" In case you don't know what ombré is it's a type of hairstyle where your hair fades from dark to light. So my title has a double entendre: ombré is actually your hair fading and I'm asking if the trend itself is fading. Get it?! I know, I know. I'm so clever.

Anyway, I recently read an article about whether or not the ombré trend is coming to an end. I'm not a health & beauty guru, although I wish I was, so I can't really answer the question with complete certainty. The trend seemed to really boom in the past year and half and although it may not be as common anymore (maybe because the wow factor of having ombré hair has gone down), people are still having their hair done in the ombré fashion.

My hair with ombré
I myself got wrapped into wanting ombré hair. I have straight light brown hair, which in my opinion is boring as can be. I do know that I sometimes take for granted how easy it is to care for my hair, but a little bit of change is necessary for everyone every once in a while. So I made an appointment at a local salon in Ann Arbor (that had been recommended to me by a close friend) to have my hair ombré'd (I'm not sure if that's a word, but you get what I mean).

My hair dresser was super nice and helpful and we decided on a dark honey blonde for my natural light brown hair color to fade into. I was happy with the results!

Then it all went downhill. Well, that's being a little dramatic. For the first couple of months my hair looked really good! It looked a tad bit awkward in a bun or ponytail because of the different colors, but oh well. It all went downhill when I went to Israel. We had to wear a hat everyday so the top of my head was covered (aka my natural light brown hair) and the bottom half of my hair was exposed (aka my faded blonde ombré). What happened was the ombré in my hair got extremely blonde so my hair was just light brown and honey blond. There was no fading. Just two blocks of color. Right when I got home I went to my hair salon and got the hair darkened so it was once again my normal color. Although I loved my ombré for a short while, I'm glad I'm back to being au natural!!

My "ombré" hair after Israel: just blonde & brunette, no fading

i'm late, i'm late for a very important date!

Today was one of those days when I was in my car all day. First I drove to the doctor because I needed an antibiotic for my sinus infection. Then I had to run to the grocery store to get milk because we're out of it at my house. Then when I got home, I had to leave again to go and pick up my prescription because it was finally ready. After a quick cat nap back at home, I had to drive to yet another appointment.

I don't mind driving. I actually find it relaxing most of the time because I just listen to my music. And I'm usually not in that big of a rush. But today, on my way to my 6 o'clock appointment, I got stuck in horrible traffic. The place I was going to is only 15 minutes away, but I decided to leave at 5:40 just to leave myself a little bit of lee-way. Well imagine my surprise when I got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I'm usually at home eating dinner around 6 and not driving so I think the fact that rush hour exists just slipped my mind.

So there I was freaking out that it was 5:55 and was still 13 minutes away. Being late for things stresses me out and I almost had a full blown panic attack while sitting in the car. I just don't get traffic. If everyone continues to move then there'd be no hold up! What makes the cars so backed up if there's not some kind of road block or accident? I don't get traffic. And I don't have the patience for it. By the time I got to my appointment I was in a terrible mood. Am I the only one who thinks that traffic is something that can be prevented?! Or am I just having wishful thoughts?

Here's the video I made in my car while driving around/sitting impatiently in traffic!
Enjoy :)

all tatted up & nowhere to go

The one thing my parents always say they will 100% disown me for is if I ever got a tattoo. In my dads words, "Even if you got one in the crack of your ass, I would find out and hunt you down." Ew. But he got his point across. I don't mind tattoos, if they're done the right way. A small tattoo that holds significant meaning to you is acceptable. When I say significant I mean a symbol or saying that means something to you. Not your boyfriend or girlfriend's name that you've only been dating for 4 months. I don't care if you think you're going to be together forever because you most likely will not be. I mean that with all due respect.

My good friend recently got a tattoo on the upper left hand of his back. Although it's a little larger than I think looks good and was in color (I'm a fan of only black), his tattoo was something that meant a lot to him. It was his mom's favorite flower with the saying "always and forever" and her initials in the petal of one of the flowers. To me, this tattoo is acceptable because his mom passed away and is in her honor. It's something he will always have to help remind him of her.

After he sent me a picture of his tattoo, I got inspired. Even if I wanted a tattoo, I don't think that I have the tolerance to get one so I went online to find how to make a temporary tattoo. Of course, I ended up on my favorite website: Pinterest. I found a post that said to draw a tattoo in Sharpie on your skin, rub baby powder on it & then spray hairspray over it all. Why not try it? I gathered the suggested materials and got to work. I wrote the word "believe"onto my inner wrist with a pen to make sure that I made the letters even and the right size. After I was happy with my work, I wrote over the pen in Sharpie, rubbed baby powder on top and sprayed it with a can of hairspray.

This was the result:

When I showed my "tattoo"to my dad the first thing he says is, "Why did you write lesbian on yourself?" Thanks a lot dad. I thought I had done a damn good job at my tattoo. Even though it didn't look professional or real, I still felt like a badass sporting a "tattoo." The Pinterest post I had gotten the instructions from said that the temporary tattoo usually lasted up to a month. Mine was pretty much gone by the next morning. Even though my attempt was sort of a fail, I do strongly urge that people getting tattoos make a "fake" one first to make sure it's what they really want!
